Sugar 3+ BB question..need help!matt s

Finally decided to switch out my original Bontrager crank with a FSA V-Drive crankset. To go with it, I bought a Tru-Vativ GIGA Pipe BB. 113mm. Puting it on a 2002 Sugar 3+ (first year Fisher came out with the + line). Took the old stuff off ok, but apparently I need a special tool for installing the new splined BB. There are apparently more than (1) type of splined install tools. The outer ring of the BB doesn't have teeth, but squared notches cut out where the tool is supposed to grab. Would appreciate it if someone could tell me what to look for. There is a spacer (washer) that came with the bb also. Don't know the shell size off hand, but the label on the bb indicates I may or may not need it based on the shell size & the type of front Der. I run, (which is a shimano LX, Mega 9..cable runs on the seat tube vertically down to the derailuer). Also bare in mind that these were the Sugar's that were notorius for chain suck, resulting in the chain getting wedged between the granny and the chainstay. If anyone's had experience with any of this I'd appreciate your advise / input. Thanks, Matt.

A bottom bracket tool that fits, see pic below. The Park tool website says:

The new BBT-7 Lockring Wrench is used for installing and removing the adjustable cup lockring used Dura-Ace and XTR Bottom Brackets (M950) using a left side lockring. (NOTE: XTR M952 and Dura-Ace 7703 cartridge bottom brackets use the BBT-2 only.)

"The BBT-7 is laser cut and engages five of the lockring's six notches for a precise, secure fit. The handle is vinyl dipped for comfort. While made specifically to fit Dura Ace and XTR Lockrings, it fits several other model and brand of lockrings as well. The major diameter of the tool is nominally 46.5mm. A ring can be no bigger than this size and fit the tool. The minor diameter (at the notches), is nominally 41mm." http://www.parktool.com/tools/BBT_7.shtml

It sounds like the spacer is for e-type bottom brackets, which the Sugar+ doesn't use. You should probably take it out to get the right chainline, and avoid chainsuck.
Thanks! That helps. (nm)Matt S.
