Basic Question regarding cranksets/bottom brackets(5 posts)

Basic Question regarding cranksets/bottom bracketsKutark Validus

Hello everyone, I'm getting ready to get my bike back in working order as i bent my crankset a year ish ago and haven't had the time nor money to fix the problem.

As such i am looking into getting a new bottom bracket with a new crankset, but i have no idea how to figure out the measurements on my bike so i order the correct one. My bike is a haro (escape i believe) 01. I see 68 and 73MM shells? 113mm spindle? I just want to make sure i get the right one for my bike, as ordering a 110 dollar crankset and BB that doesnt fit would be bad ;-(

Can anyone tell me how to check these numbers? Or if anyone knows offhand if it will work?

I apologize for wasting all of your time with such a silly question, but i have ethical issues with calling a bike shop to get a bunch of info and then ordering something online, as that gets done quite often at my place of business and it truly is a frustrating thing.

Which spindle length will be dependent mostly upon which cranks you're getting.. So, we'll need to know that (also, whomever you order your crank from should be able to tell you what length you'll need!)
Most compact cranks w/ square taper spindle will take something between 107-113.
You shell width is easily measured.. Just measure the width of the BB shell, it will be either 68mm or 73mm wide. I've got a 99 or 2000 Haro with a 68mm BB shell (surprised me, since most alu frames are 73mm)

lets us know (=
peace,
Serge

I am looking at the Raceface prodigy XC ISIS with the raceface SRX Bottom Bracket. I went and measured the shell and it appears to be 68mm.
actually most bb shells are 68...speak

68 is by far the most common shell width. Specialized is one of the few who do all their frames (atb only) with 73mm shells.
wouldn't say fewlaffeaux

For MTBs is probably evenly split down the middle for 68 and 73 mm shells. Trek and Yeti (too name but a few) are both 73 mm.
