SRAM X.9 shifters with Hayes brake levers question....(3 posts)

SRAM X.9 shifters with Hayes brake levers question....Jaybo

I have been struggling to set up my levers with my new X.9 SRAM shifters. I like the levers right over the grips for easy access (main reason I didn't like grip shift).

I knew going in that Shimano shifters are the most ergonomic shifters out there; however, the light action shifting sucks in wet weather. I wish Shimano would lose their fascination with light action shifting.

I really like the action of the SRAM shifters. How have you set up your Hayes with your X.9's?

Thanks,

Jay

I wasn't "perfectly" happy with mine upon initial setup (Hayes Mag Plus with X.9 shifters)--thought the shifters needed to be a little further outboard but I couldn't get them there without also moving the brake levers outboard. After the first ride I rotated the shifter a bit, and have adapted to it since then. In a perfect world I'd like to see the shifter clamp become about 5mm narrower to give that last little bit of adjustability. Having said that, for the quality of the shift combined with the quality of the braking, I'm pretty damn happy.

Good luck.

The X.9 shifts so darn well. I have been amazed. I still try to shift with my fingers at times. I don't know why some people on this site hammer Hayes. They only rub a touch when they are wet and muddy, and they just always work with great pad life.
