what causes chain sag in the top run of the chain when i backpedal?
friction in the freehubclub

it's either gunked up and needs flushing with solvent and relubing with nice thick oil, or the seals have swelled up and are causing drag, or some of the lil bearings have become a fine metal dust and the whole thing is becoming toast, or if you have a spoke protector it might be jamming it up, or could be something else going on, but it's definitely something to do with the freehub. when it gets worse, you'll notice the top run of the chain sagging not just when you backpedal, but when you're coasting. if you backpedal the bike in the work stand can you get the wheel turning backwards, probably more slowly than you're pedaling the cranks, but backwards? that's from the drag.
