Are seatpost shims dangerous??(3 posts)

Are seatpost shims dangerous??Jack
Sep 26, 2001 10:44 PM
I'm planning to get a seatpost shim that goes from 25.0 to 30.9 to fit my suspension seatpost on my Stumper. The guy at the lbs told me that they don't carry that size because he thinks it's dangerous. Is that true? If so, then why do I see it on online stores? If anyone can shed some light on this, that would be great. I'm just really hoping to use my suspension seatpost on my Stumper!!
Thanks
not dangerous at all, but......heff®

...you MIGHT wanna check into getting a slightly bigger boinger post. Shims are perfectly alright to use in the meantime, though. You'd have to anyway, the biggest linear suspension post made is a 27.2 (RockShox). Otherwise, you could get a ThudBuster, or similar linkage post, those come in sizes up to the 30.9 that you need.

I have a oversized post and have been using shims and susp seatposts for the past 3 years. Never had a problem. I now use the HydraPost which is the best designed seatpost I have ever used (and under 100 bux). Hydrapost supplies the shim according to your tube size.
