| Mont Tremblant | Kleinadian Sep 27, 2001 10:05 AM | | Is Mont Tremblant open to mountain biking (XC)?
I heard it was closed to downhillers because of people getting hurt, but they blamed it on erosion. I'm not sure about XC though. |
| Unfortunately.... | SS_MB-7 Sep 27, 2001 10:51 AM | | Mont Tremblant is closed to all riding -- even XC. They did hold a Q-Cup/Canada-Cup race there this summer (it was great!), but that was rumoured to be the last race at Tremblant. It's really too bad that a couple bad apples ruin it for the rest of us. Bromont is still open and it has great riding. Ride Hard, Mike B. |
| Does mean no more riding ever? | P-burg Sep 27, 2001 11:15 AM | | Or just this year? |
| As far as I know....forever! (nm) | SS_MB-7 Sep 27, 2001 12:13 PM | | |
| glimmer of hope... | JimC Sep 27, 2001 3:23 PM | | Whistler has been making money for them (Intrawest), if it proves out maybe it might return to Tremblant? However, Whistler bailed on the World's this summer 4 weeks prior to the race, whcih got sent to Grouse in Vancouver. While successful there, Whistler simply said there's no $$$ (their middle name) in MTB racing.
B@st@rds, real estate slime. But hey, I'm not bitter. Jim (off to Whistler Saturday) |
| glimmer of hope... | Nar Sep 27, 2001 7:20 PM | | Hey man, as a former manager for IntraWest, I tell you now they f^cking suck! It would not surprise me at all if they never turn their fat heads in MTBing's direction again at Tremblant, at Stratton (where I was) they gave it a minimal shake at best, then left it in the dust for good...this is a company that is scared of risk...they just want to build up the property for real estate, and to that end they pander to the ones they perceive to be the spenders (some call it smart business, I call it ignorant stereotyping)...you should hear their manager training sessions and marketing strategies! it would really make you sick. They think they have us all pegged, and refuse to look outside the stereotype, god frobid you be a professional in the market place and ride a MTB or board...the only reason that the US Open (snowboarding) is still at Stratton is because of the rediculous revenue it generates, otherwise, they would rather "that element" wasn't even represented on the slopes there! This is truth from the inside! Oh, and for what it worth...they blamed erosion for the closing of the trails to MTBs at Stratton too, but somehow the $15 million artficial pond they built to pump water out for 90-some-odd% snowmaking will have less an impact...go figure. I realize that are beholding to no one other than their investors, but that does not change the fact that IntraWest care little to nothing for the people who do pay out the ear just to cop a few turns on sh&tty man-made snow, or would to ride the miles of sniggle that lace the mountains. Peace. |
| glimmer of hope... | ampb4 Oct 1, 2001 10:22 AM | | Kleinadian (see above), myself, and 19 other riders braved the "establishment" Sep. 28/29/30 and rode up Tremblant and down the backside. At the climbing wall, a Tremblant worker came over and advised our leader that bikes were not allowed on the mountain and that we'd have to walk down (!). With some negotiating and some calls on her radio to her boss (someone to relieve her of responsibility), she allowed us to walk our bikes to the top and ride down the back. It was a killer descent, ridden in a fast, controlled manner. We met 3 hikers that didn't seem offended by sharing the trail with a steady stream of riders. The rest of the weekend was spent riding on the "legal" trails below the village. I believe the only way to get access back for riders at Mont Tremblant is to keep riding there! Be polite, say hi to everyone, don't skid, don't be a jackass, walk your bike at the top, don't descend down the front side, etc. If we don't go away, maybe they'll figure out that we spend money there too. |
