put yer thumb on one brake boss, put yer index finger on the other. squeeze the brake lever with yer other hand. if you feel any movement, like the two bosses moving farther apart, well, there ya go....
Depends. Works for my Marin full-susGakster

The rear swing-arm on my bike flexes when I apply the rear brakes. Brake Booster worked well in this case.

I had a hard-tail 2 years ago and that didn't need booster.

Here's my experience. I ride all year. I have rim brakes. We ride through mud, rivers, high wet grass, mud, a sort of xc and fr combination. When the environment is wet, I couldn't stop or slow down as well as I wanted. I thought a brake booster would help. I took a caliper, took off my tire, re-installed my rear rim, put the caliper at the screws for the rim brakes, squeezed the brakes and had 4mm of bowing. So I purchased a booster, a DKG because it didn't have slots, and now I have 2mm. Did it make a difference? No. I even changed my pads to the blue extreme conditions pads. That helped a little. You might say that 4mm to 2mm is minimal. Maybe, but it didn't help and when you're going fast and you don't stop and there's a tree in front of you.....well, you know what I mean. I'm also a big guy, so there's a lot of inertia. Take a look at brake boosters in the review pages and get some other ideas. Your bosses might flex a lot more, so it might be helpful to you. But you know what? I'm going to disc's. That's the only things thats going to help in my conditions. Good luck.

They do work.....sometimes well ( steal or Ti ) sometimes not so well ( alum ) the stiffer the frame material the less they will do for ya.
