Somebody is giving me a bike for my wife. This bike is a mid 90s specialized and it has a 1" head tube. I was told that the shock wasnt working properly. How hard would it be to replace the shock? Does somebody make a 1" threaded shock? And how much would it cost. Can I convert it to threadless? I cannot afford right now to get her a new bike so i have to deal with what we have. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
not sure abt a new fork but...grundy

to convert to threadless all that you have to do is get a new headset and stem to go with your new fork. I have seen 1" forks on ebay. That might be a good place to start looking
rigid fork...Paul

you can always get a rigid fork from your local bike shop for a few bucks (installed) this might save some headaches or provide a temp. stop-gap until you find a proper fork.
You CAN get a 1" fork, but $$$Cory

I posted this same question a couple of months ago, 'cause I have an old Bridgestone rigid that I still ride occasionally. Turns out that Marzocchi still makes a few 1" forks. But you have to special-order through a dealer, they're pretty expensive for an old non-exotic bike, you have to convert to V-brakes and I think there were a couple of other things. I eventually decided not to do it, because I have plenty of other bikes to ride and this one can be a mudder/beater.
