Stripping/Painting Frame?(3 posts)

Stripping/Painting Frame?Big Bird

Hi. I want to strip the paint off of my frame and then paint it all matte black. How would I go about this? Would any good quality spray paint do the trick? Any help or suggestion is greatly appreciated!

The only way to get the paint off (if it's powdercoated) is either have it sand-blasted or find a product called "Aircraft Remover". It's very easy to do with Aircraft Remover, but the stuff is really nasty and hard to find. I would reccomend having an auto body shop paint it because (at least in my experience) hand painted frames don't look to good unless you know exactly what to do.
Cheers,

For what you'd pay for the chemical stripping solution, you could spend about $10 more and take it somewhere to have it done. No mess!!! Look in the phone book, and start calling around for a chemical stripper. It'll run you $30-$40. That's pretty cheap. Then call around for powdercoaters. Or if you can get it stripped and painted at same place, that's even more convenient. If if the powdercoater has experience with bike frames, all the better. To have it professionally powdercoated, it might run you $40-$50. So for less than $100, you can get your frame repainted, and it won't look like you did it on the floor of your garage with a spray can.

I had a frame stripped and repainted last winter, and it ran me $78.
