Riding on U.S. 101(San Luis Obispo, Ca)mrsuperlight

Hi Folks,

Is it legal to ride Northbound on the Southbound shoulder of US101 in San Luis Obispo, Ca from the Monterey St Exit? I'm trying to avoid wetting my pants while crossing US101 to get to Stage Coach Road at the bottom of this deadly Cuesta Grade.

Thanks!

I would highly NOT recommend doing that. The CHP constantly patrols this area of the 101 and would most definitely stop you for going the wrong way. Plus, I was riding southbound from stagecoach the other day and I felt pretty unsafe in that direction, let alone going the opposite way. If you don't want to cross 101, you can get to stagecoach and shooters through either poly canyon or stenner creek. I would suggest either one until the weather gets wet, then the only way I will get to stagecoach is through the 101. Happy riding, let me know if you have any questions.

The Madonna entrance from either Marsh or Higuera isn't that bad. All that you really have to do follow the traffic signals and go under the overpass. From there, you go into the pseudo parking lot and it's off to Madonna. I don't really know the way after that, but you simply follow the singletrack towards to rock garden.

I didn't hear about the accident, word usually passes pretty quickly around here. I just hope that everything will be a little bit safer once the grade is done. Happy trails.
