Info on Reflex "ALX89" Frame?Rich Clark

Howdy,

A friend of mine is looking at an unusual MTB that we can't find any info on. It's a metallic red "Reflex" frame, and on the top tube it says "ALX89," which I guess is the model name.

The main triangle tubes appear to be aluminum, but the rest of the frame -- the entire rear triangle, the head tube, the bottom bracket housing, the rigid fork -- is steel. The steel parts are socketed to accept the aluminum tubes, but we can't tell how the joins were done.

My primary question is whether anyone knows of any serious problems with this frame -- safety/durability issues that would make riding it a bad idea. After that, we'd just like to know anything we can learn about it.

Any info much appreciated. Thanks!
