Need advice: thinking of buying a KONA SCAB (with Z1 shocks)Panzer_ace

I am currently looking for a new mountain bike and need some advice.

I consider myself of intermediate skill level: I generally do well rounded riding: uphill, downhill, mostly single track, (cross country with some technical sections: lots of roots, logs, and rocks, some small jumps (no bigger than 4 feet jumps). I'm also thinking in getting involved in some xc racing.

I had a 1999 Jeep bike (no suspension) ($350 Canadian) and it lasted pritty well until last year when I started getting more technical and putting more load on it. I spent $300 in repears and now broke my rear wheal axel in half.

I'm looking into a hardtail bike, $1000 (Can.) price range. I live up on the West Coast (vancouver) and need something that will last and give me good performance.

I found a bike called Kona "Scab" with 5inch bomber shocks for $899 Can. ($300 off on sale!)

Does anyone have any advice for me? Would that bike serve my needs? Also, I read that the bike is made for urban assult and trials; does that have any limitations for my style of riding? (I do xc and some downhill)

What would you recommend some other bike? any additions to the scab that I need? Are the bikes I have in mind a good option?
