Vertical Pro or Survival Pro for rear?(4 posts)

Vertical Pro or Survival Pro for rear?Kapusta
Nov 2, 2001 7:08 PM
I got a Continental Vertical Pro for the front of my bike and I absolutley LOVE it. I've been using a Fire XC on the rear and I do like it, but it is worn out, and I want something bigger now.

How does the Vertical Pro work as a rear tire? Is it as good all round as the Fire XC?

I'm also considering the Survival Pro. I've seen that it is not recomended for pavement (who cares?) or hardpack. Is this just because of the rolling resistance, or does it actually lack traction on hardpack?

Thanks for any input on this.

The only reason that the survial pro is not recomended for hard pack and pavement is becuase it wears quickly on those surfaces.... I have had a set of survival pros for about a year now and I ride a combination of hard pack, pavemnent, mud and loose stuff, so my tires go thru a lot. The survival pro's are now getting to the point where they are wearing out and thats with a year and about 500 mile on them....

Hope this helps

Or the Traction Pro...næstep

I've been really happy with the Traction Pro as a rear climber. Conti's recently discontinued it, but you can pick them up for $15 at Universal Cycles. I've recently stocked up, and ride with a Traction Pro rear, Fire XC front.

I have the Vert Pro Pro-Tection on both front and rear on the light wheelset for my Isis. Works great, very predictable and excellent climbing traction.

I would be curious to see whether the Universal Cycles $15 blowout Traction Pro would be lighter/better on the rear. That would let me run one of my Vert Pro tires as a front on the hardtail!
