Dec 9, 2001 6:59 PM | | Almost any grease that says "bearings" on the label will do. If you ride a lot in wet conditions, you could try Marine tub grease. Cheap, "waterproof" and available anywhere. Any bicycle specific grease will work too. I have use Pedro's Synlube with success. |

Dec 10, 2001 4:23 AM | | Is good old Quaker State Marine Grease. Won't wash out like many greases, and keeps the bearings from rusting or pitting. Good stuff, works great, and is allot cheaper than bike specific lubes.

Dec 10, 2001 5:51 AM | | Started using Valvoline automotive wheel bearing grease because it's cheap and I had it on hand. Have heard it is too thick for bikes, but it holds up well and I've never had a problem. |

Dec 10, 2001 4:50 PM | | By far, the best grease is boat trailer grease. It is this thick blue grease that will silence and waterproof bearings for upto 2 years. I used to have to remove, clean and regrease my bottom bracket every two to three months. It's been about two years since I last had to work on my bottom bracket. The guys at Bike Beat (now Chumbawumba) told me about this stuff. You can usually get a tub of this grease for $4 to $6. |
