| I need a LONG 26.8 seatpost NOT ALUMINUM any suggestions? | evlgreg Dec 10, 2001 4:44 PM | | It needs to be 26.8mm diameter and at least 390mm length. NO ALUMINUM POSTS. Trust me, I worked in warranty for a big bike company. Aluminum fails more often and more catastrophic. Even chro-moly would be OK if they exist. Weight not an issue except that it must be a little lighter than a solid lead pipe down the seattube.

| Try to find a Syncros hardcore post... | Painter Dec 10, 2001 4:55 PM | | I'm 210 lbs. and have been using most of a Syncros 425mm Hardcore aluminum post for about four years, and I've never had a problem.
It will be a little difficult to find one since GT went tits up, but you should be able to track one down somewhere.
Good luck.

| Try to find a Syncros hardcore post... | evlgreg Dec 10, 2001 5:19 PM | | Thanks for the suggestion, but I will not use ANY aluminum. I put about 4000 miles of singletrack on my last Ti post and it made a clean break in the middle of the tube. I will not reveal the manufacturer, because none of the ti seatpost makers actually manufacture the tube, they just attach a head to a stock spec piece of ti tubing by either welding or epoxy. No bend, just snap...
I actually prefet the way carbon fails, the handlebars I have seen (hundreds) usually stay together but wiggle at the failure point. More opinions? |

| Syncros makes a carbon fiber seatpost. Buy it at...... | Wwwwwwaspinator Dec 10, 2001 9:54 PM | | Bikeworld.com I myself have the Syncros Hardcore 6061-T6 seatpost. I've had excellent experiences with all their products (seatposts, handlebars, headset). I just wish they made their handlebars with a little upward sweep, but oh well! |

| How about oak?.... | fred³ Dec 11, 2001 9:26 AM | | j/k. Not aluminum. Well unless you want carbon fiber aren't you pretty much stuck with a heavy steel post? I've been using a Thomson 410mm post for over a year with no problems at all.

| Please send me testing information. | evlgreg Dec 12, 2001 4:02 PM | | Hi,
Please send me your supporting documentation showing the better strength of the current "best seatpost flavor" of the year (Thompson)
I don't want to sound mean, but I used to break things at a bike company and GOT PAID TO DO IT.
If you have the information on this wonderful new aluminum please send me any test results you have including maximum yield strength, tensile strength, hardness, elasticity, etc. Seat of the pants testing and a year or so of ride experience is not enough for me to put my butt on it.
Marketing can be made to say anything you want, see this site... www.dhmo.org you may see what I mean.
Thanks,
Greg |
