| tired chainrings | Jeffro Dec 10, 2001 6:29 PM | | My chainrings are old, tired, and worn. Replacing them is not an option right now. I notice that the wear seems to be concentrated at the spot where the tangent of the chainring is pependicular to the crankarm(the spots that are in line with pedal are). If I rotated the chainrins 144 or 216 degrees to even out the wear would this help, hurt, or have any effect on their performance?
thnx, Jeffro |

These ramps allow the chain to shift easier, and are placed where they are because this is the point where their most needed (ie. your power stroke, when the most load is placed on your chain). I say your best off just runnig them as they are until you can replace them. If the shifting is really poor though, I guess it wouldn't hurt to give it a try and see what happens, though I can't imagine that it would improve the shifting any, and will probably make it worse. Better start saving your nickels for new rings! Good luck. |
