| Good Place to stay in the Moab Area.. | Joker Dec 11, 2001 9:20 AM | | Hey, Thinking of taking a trip with my wife to the Moab area this spring and am looking for suggestions on good places to stay while we are there. I'd like a condo or motel with a kitchen to save some dough. Some place clean, with non smoker rooms would be great and good location would also be a plus, any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks! |
| Good Place to stay in the Moab Area.. | DIRT BOY Dec 11, 2001 9:39 AM | | I stayed at the Best Western in Moab:
B E S T W E S T E R N
Greenwell Inn
105 South Main Street, Moab, Utah, United States, 84532
435-259-6151 Fax: 435-259-4397
It was very clean and only 3 miles from SLICK ROCK TRAIL.
There is not much there. I is basically a 1 Road Town but great people and lots of restraunts and Motels.
They even let us keep the bikes in the hotel room!
Cheap rates with really clean non-smoking rooms.
If you need info about bike rentals or trail info e-mail me.
I was their in August for 8 days!!!!! Great riding. You may never want to leave! |
| Several options with kitchen (and hot tub)! | Rider Mel Dec 11, 2001 9:55 AM | | Howdy, check out Westwood Guesthouse (800-526-5690), Moab Lodging (800-505-5343), Cottonwood/Fandango (435-259-8897) All of these places are clean, have kitchens and some have hot tubs. Let them know I sent you. If you want to go cheaper, check out the Lazy Lizard Hostel (you have use of a shared kitchen (435-259-6057). Email me at ridermel@moabtrailguide.com if you have any other questions. Have fun! Mel |
| Nichols Lane . . . | NoSanBa Dec 11, 2001 10:43 AM | | Sorry, don't have the phone number but Moab Central Reservations can get it for you.
Have stayed there three times, one bedroom condo with an extra sofa-bed and a small kitchen.
Very clean, at the end of a quiet street. Has bike storage, a hot tub and is reasonably priced.
If you want party central, stay somewhere else. If you want a nice, quiet place to stay and re-charge after a day of riding, Nichols Lane is your place.
Have also stayed at Fandango, also nice.
Have a great trip!

| Gooseberry Mesa | Scott W. Frazier Dec 11, 2001 9:08 PM | | If you will be in the area for a number of days consider a side trip to ride Gooseberry Mesa. It is two hours away, in southwest Utah, but well worth the trip. It is regarded by many as the best trail system in Utah. |
| Let's hear more about this place. | Nat Dec 12, 2001 4:26 AM | | I've heard the name, but haven't heard anything about the trail system. What's it like? |
| Gooseberry is great but more than 2 hours away! | Rider Mel Dec 12, 2001 6:08 AM | | Hi, I agree that Gooseberry is a very worthwhile trip but it's not a 2 hour drive (unless you know of a route that I don't). I like riding Gooseberry in the morning and hiking Angel's Landing in Zion in the afternoon.
Cheers!

| Angel's Landing in Zion | SFL-RACER Dec 12, 2001 9:29 AM | | What I hike! I was there in August, 110 degrees at 2pm on summit.Being from Florida that was pretty amazing heat and hike. But I have to admit when I thought I got to the top (those who have been there know whatI mean) I was estatic till this old timer who runs it once a week pointed to the real summit across that narrow strip of land saying that is the top! For only being my 2nd real mountain hike (last year 7 days in the Grand Tetons) that was some of the scariest shit I have ever walked on. I guess when you see chains to hold on to you know it is tuff stuff. There almost vertical scrambling was fun but I tought for a momement I was going off tthe side between slipping and high winds.
If you are ever in Southwestren Utah this is a must hike. Also hike Arches and Cayonlans when in Moab, you won't be sorry and give to a chance to rest your saddle sores! |
| I give you credit... | Bonee Dec 12, 2001 1:04 PM | | I was to chickenshit to walk to the edge of angels landing. I stayed on the main platform before you hit the chains. That place is crazy. Beautiful, but crazy. |
| It looks worse than it is! | Rider Mel Dec 12, 2001 1:54 PM | | Hi, I agree that it looks kinda scary but I've done it a bunch of times and really, when you're doing it you never feel like there's a chance of falling. Two years ago we did it with our kids in packs on our backs. They were completely secured (before someone goes off on me) and really enjoyed it, but boy did we get some wierd looks.
I agree with above poster, when in Moab don't pass up the awesome hiking in Arches.
Cheers!
