Rubbed off paint...(3 posts)

Rubbed off paint...Code
Jan 16, 2002 6:27 PM
I have an '01 NRS 2 frame(6000 aluminum). An improperly trued wheel caused the wheel to rub against the inside of the the and bottom arms on one side of the swing arm. The removed paint on the lower leg is about .5" tall and 1.5" wide; the upper leg has about .5" and 1" of removal. Should I worry about this? The bike is stored inside, but I do do a lot of winter riding on salted streets. I would like to repaint it but wouldn't know where to begin(I do know someone that could paint it for me if I had the right paint). To try to prevent this is the future should I put a coat of wax on it, or some other protective coat? If so what kind of wax and how many coats? I would really appreciate any help, thanks.

You need some "touch-up" paint because chips and scratches will happen... For my previous bike, I found a perfect match by trying the little enamel paints bottles (for models) at a hobby store. For my Homegrown frame, I actually found a "Plasti-Cote" brand touch up kit that matched the blue and even had metallic specks at an automotive paint supplier. Good luck. P.S., no need to slam religion.
Salt? Better touch upWriConsult

For a lot of people I'd say don't worry about it. I ride in the rain at least weekly and have never had any real rust even years after scraping paint off in various places. But if you ride on salted streets you'd better touch it up or it will start rusting pretty fast.
