| Storage Rack Help | DaMtnRider Jan 17, 2002 6:03 AM | | I thought I saw on here a while back a post on building your own in-house storage rack. I searched, but no luck. Anyone have any ideas on either building your own or a good price/place to find a double storage rack. My bike is a Enduro, so need to allow/rig for the frame. Thanks. |
| re: Storage Rack Help | 5.10 Jan 17, 2002 8:42 AM | | I made a double storage rack that leans on the wall for about $10-15 out of 2x3's. It's not the prettiest thing, but quite a bit stronger than the other $100+ rack I have, plus I've added a shelf for extras. Mine is set up for standard hardtails, but with a little ingenuity you probably could modify it to work. If you're interested I could draw up some quick plans. |

| Here it is | 5.10 Jan 17, 2002 10:56 AM | | Forgive the crudeness I did it quickly. The boards are all 2x3's except for the shelves. The screws are labeled in red sort of. The dimensions are approx. I don't have it in front of me, plus you should fit it to your situation. I used just standard bike hooks and hook on to the frame. The bottom bike has to be stored with it's front wheel turned, but that one is a small wsd frame on mine. The arms should be positioned for your frame geometry. It also leaves a nice place for shoes under the bottom bike. I also put a strip of rubber on everywhere that the rack touches the wall or floor. I had some truck to camper gasket stuff laying around. I think I used 2 1/2 inch wood screws. This sucker is strong, I hung on mine for a little bit. Tell me if you come up with any good improvments. |

| one more time | 5.10 Jan 17, 2002 2:19 PM | | I don't get it, sometimes it shows up sometimes it doesn't. But I think I got it now. |
| re: Storage Rack Help | jdm Jan 17, 2002 12:18 PM | | I've built a few racks over the years. I built one of the leaning types out of busted up old palletts. total material cost: $0.00
Most recently I simply screwed a couple of cheapie wall bracket directly to the wall. You can get them at the Home Despot for less than $10 a piece. I'm sure you could bend the arms in such a way that one would catch your frame in the right places. Also, you could build a rack using those brackets, whether it leaned against the wall, or pressed from floor to ceiling. It all depends where you're putting the thing, if you mind mounting things on your walls, and of course how pretty you want it to be.
One word of warning though; the brackets aren't really long enough for a bike w/ wide riser bars. You'd have to block them off the wall with a peice of 2x4 or something, no biggie.
