| Anybody heard of an Icon MTB Stem? (X-Post in Weight Forum) | Confuzed? Jan 17, 2002 9:37 AM | | I've seen Icon Sterling road stems but I've got the opportunity to buy what is described as an MTB stem. Nothing on the Icon website (the website was discontinued). Thanks in advance for any info you can give me. |
| yes. | Cabin Fever Jan 17, 2002 9:51 AM | | Yes, Icon parts used to come on Trek bikes. I have a Trek 7000, which came with an Icon handlebar, Stem, seatpost, and crankset. As for the stem, i didn't like it much at all. it wasn't very stiff at all, so it was flexing all over the place. It worked as a stem, in that it held the handlebar in place, but i eventually replaced it when one of the screws on the handlebar clamp stripped the hole out. the screw was fine, but the hole that it screwed into was toast, so i had to replace the whole stem. for the better i guess, now i have a stem that doesn't flex hardly at all. i guess the stem was pretty light, if that is what you are looking for. If you are going to buy it, don't may more than 15 bucks. it isn't worth it. |
| I have one on my mtb ... | dogbert Jan 17, 2002 10:00 AM | | Icon is (or was) the Trek house brand of components. It was spec'd on my old '99 Trek 7000, but it's now found its way onto my current bike. It's not high zoot like a Thomson or Race Face, but so far it's doing a good job of holding my handlebar in place. |
| Sure. It came on my Loco.... | fred³ Jan 17, 2002 10:29 AM | | very good stem. Nothing fancy. It works. Now I've gone to a Thomson. Much purdier.
