Where do I get a bearing race for my fork(3 posts)

Where do I get a bearing race for my forkRider X
Feb 16, 2002 1:49 PM
I tore down my bike for a complete overhaul and found some rough spots on the bearing race at the crown of my fork. If I'm not mistaken, these do not come with a new headset (which I will need), and I know when my brother tried to get one from the LBS, it was like pulling teeth and a poor fit at best. So where do I get this part?

TIA

While I'd hesitate to call the lower bearing race "headset specific", it does need to match up with the lower bearing of the headset. For example, if your lower bearing has a 36° inner chamfer, a 45° bearing race will give you a crappy fit and no end of adjustment troubles. And some lower races have wide flanges to help protect and seal the bearing; these have to meet the lower cup within some tolerance.

Best to contact the headset manufacturer for replacement, or in your case, just use the one that comes with your new headset.
