| REAR SHOCK- COIL OR AIR | stinky Feb 16, 2002 6:40 PM | | IM SHOPPING FOR A MIDPRICED FS BIKE, AND SEE THAT MOST OVER 1200, COME WITH A REAR AIR SHOCK. I DONT PLAN ON RACING IT, ONLY USE FOR TRAIL RIDING IN ROCKY SIERRA TRAILS. I WAS THINKING ABOUT A KONA MANOMANO(COMES WITH AIR SHOCK), SHOULD I SWITCH IT FOR A COIL AT THE DEALERS, OR STICK WITH THE AIR SHOCK. I DONT LIKE THE IDEA OF PUMPING IT, OR DEALING WITH A LEAK. I DONT CARE ABOUT WIEGHT EITHER, JUST WANT A NICE PLUSH FEEL. |
| If your not going to race and you want plush... | Squash Feb 16, 2002 10:23 PM | | go with the coil. There are very few air shocks that will come close to the feel of coil/oil. You already said the weight is not a concern, just a nice cushy ride. Go coil for the cush.
Good Dirt |
| Coil will do nicely | Leisure Feb 17, 2002 2:08 AM | | I had a friend recently bust the Float-RC on his Superlight and replace it with a Vanilla. Amazing how smooth it is. |
| re: REAR SHOCK- COIL OR AIR | Locoman Feb 17, 2002 10:27 AM | | Coil would probably be the safe bet, but I wouldn't discount air. I've been running a Stratos XC for some time and it doesn't leak and it's plush & stiction free.
Good luck. |
| re: REAR SHOCK- COIL OR AIR | Summit Feb 17, 2002 11:09 AM | | hm air shocks do work fine. they became much better over the last years, but as someone allready said coil shocks are still smoother.
if you are not a reacer and probably do longer rides i recommend a coil shock for one major reason. when a coil shock fails you can ride home on your bike(slowly and without damping). when an airshock blows up you will push you bike the long way home. |
| Then go coil... | Jrm Feb 18, 2002 9:25 AM | | And spring it correctly for your weight. have fun |
