| fedex ground...ups ground.... | ibismojo Feb 17, 2002 11:09 AM | | it'll probably cost around 60 dollars, give or take 10 dollars, us currency. |
| Fedex ground is the cheapest... | TC Feb 17, 2002 9:03 PM | | for a box the size of a bike shipping box. try the fedex website and enter the dimensions and it'll give you the exact price. A box that is 45" X 10" X 30" is around $75 Cdn. (approx bike box size). |
| Ship it to Toronto via UPS | DFÄ Feb 18, 2002 3:46 AM | | That's how mine got to Philly.......after going to Chicago 5 times. |
| Be careful or you could get screwed... | chris2fur Feb 18, 2002 8:11 AM | | Pack the bike like you expect it to get nuked and insure it. Just a quick synopsis of what happened to me: I bought a frame via the MTBR classifieds. The seller did not insure it and although he bubble wrapped most of the frame, he left the rear drops against one end of the box and the bottom of the head tube against the other end of the box. FedEx Ground delivered it with the drops sticking out of the box, with no notation of visible damage and got no delivery signature (left it on the porch). I found the bottom of the head tube bent from a hard impact, and the paint chipped. The integrated headset bearing would no longer fit in. FedEx said I had to have their driver pick it up and take it in for inspection. I said they were nuts unless they were going to guarantee they wouldn't screw it up more. After arguing for 2 days with them they granted me "permission" to take it in to the terminal myself and witness the inspection. The terminal manager in Tucson, Vicki (a liar) said that although it could have been packed better, it had indeed recieved a hard blow that caused the damaged. She promised to enter the report right away and assured me that I would recieve the $100 minimum coverage. My claim was denied and when I recieved a copy of the report, it said "no visible damage to package, packaging not proper."
After calling and raising considerable "hell" by explaining that I was present for the inspection and still had the damaged box and paint chips and would do whatever necessary for redress, they sent me the stupid $100 minimum. I got the head tube machined for $50.00 and got some "PlastiKote" touch up paint that matched my frame. Bottom line, pack it to handle anything, because even if you insure it, they will jack you around and lie to your face to avoid paying you. |
