| go to another shop that may not be local or... | Kornphlake Feb 17, 2002 3:36 PM | | try to contact rock shox directly. I have had things on order for weeks at certain shops just because the idiots that work there don't place the order like they are supposed to. Try a different shop even if it is twenty miles away. If the springs are on back order the shop should know just as soon as they place the order and they should tell you that it'll be a few weeks or months. If nobody can get them for you visit rock shox web site and see if you can order them directly, they may even give them to you for free. |
| It's not your LBS's fault | Greyhound Feb 18, 2002 10:41 AM | | Initially, I thought the same thing when I tried to get a firmer spring for my Manitou Black fork. I'm about 190 lbs. and the stock spring is only set for a 160 lb. rider. I ordered the thing at the beginning of Feb. Several weeks have gone by, and I still haven't heard from the bike shop. So I called at the end of last week, and they told me that I wouldn't receive my spring until the end of Feb. or the beginning weeks of March. What!! You've got to be kidding me--it took less time than that to receive the WHOLE bike---this is just a damn spring!!
So, I called customer service to try and get to the bottom of this delimma.
Essentially, what has happened, is that the spring manufacturers have had a little goof-up. The spring rates were nowhere near what they were supposed to be and all of them failed inspection. This wasn't just Manitou either. Lots of fork companies were lost out on this one. They have begun production on new springs, and they should be shipped out by the end of Feb. So, I realized that my LBS wasn't being lazy and forgot to order it. Luckily, I didn't make too huge of an ass of myself to the guy on the phone at the shop so that I might actually be able to show up in person to pick it up. |
