from the 4900 on up, as far as mountain bikes are concerened. Anything made with Alpha aluminum, SLR aluminum or the new ZR9000 aluminum are made in Waterloo Wisconsin. Anything else is made overseas.

The 4300 & 4500 are also made of alpha aluminum but I believe those frames are made in Asia. Also the 4900 frame is the same as 4300 & 4500.

The 4900 WSD is made in Waterloo, the mens 4900 frame is made in China as are the 4500, 4300, 820 and 800 Sport.

4900 and up. The bikes are also labeled with a "made in USA" sticker on the downtube just under the watercage mount. The ones made overseas have a "made in Taiwan" sticker on the headtube under the Trek logo....
Well then why does Trek...jcw

keep that a secret? Check the web site or their catalog (or a bike) and you'll see them proudly proclaiming that the 4900 WSD is "Handmade in the USA" (look under the Complete Spec's section) just like the sticker says on the bike. But if you look at the mens 4900 there is no such proclaimation (and no corresponding sticker on the bikes). Anyway, I could be wrong, but I find it odd that Trek wouldn't strongly advertise the frame as being made in the US if it was.

My Y2K Trek 6000 uses the same frame as the 4900 and the sticker says made in the U.S.A. I do not beleive that the frame is made in the U.S.A. just that the bike is assembled in the states. Anyways I have an email into Trek tech. Hopefully they will resolve this debate for us.

as I've been telling customers that the mens 4900 frame is made in China, and obviously that'd be a great selling point for a $500 bike.

Well I contacted Trek and they said the frame on my Y2K 6000 was made in the good ole U.S.A.. They must have stated to move their production of those frames to Asia in the last couple of years.
