| Help me find a bike! | Koosh Feb 18, 2002 10:04 PM | | I'm a 5'2" 105 lb. female who NEEDS a bike!!! I've previously had a Diamondback and also tried Kona. I live off a couple rims in Montana; pretty rough rides--do I need suspension? My Diamondback was rigid and I loved it fine, but then I was also riding some tricky trails in NE Georgia...Someone's trying to sell me a FS? FX? Elite "Canyon"?!? I've never heard of it...can someone help me? It sounds cheap, and I haven't seen it yet...Waste of time? Where do I need to look? |
| A few ideas | Stone Feb 19, 2002 8:09 AM | | I'm from MT myself and if the riding where you live is anything like the Flathead Valley area you will love what a full suspension bike can do for you. Around here the trails are rooty, rocky and steep so my preference is a light bike that climbs well but has enough cush to tackle the bumps. I found that the K2 Razorback does this job very well. The razorback is a little spendy ($1600+) but worth it if you ride a lot. If you want to stay with Diamondback, the XSL is a good bike that starts around $1000.
Some manufacturers like Gary Fisher, Titus, Cannondale and others make female specific full suspension frames, but it depends on your build how much you need this. Check local bike shops and ask to test ride defferent bikes and find one that feels right for you. I hope that helps a little. |
| A few more ideas | 5.10 Feb 20, 2002 11:56 AM | | At 5'2" I would definetly look at the women's specific bikes. Here's a few I have looked at with my girlfriend and thought were good bikes. I think the Santa cruz's are the best deal. Hardtails: Trek WSD 4900, 6700, 8000 Range from ~400 to ~$1000 Specialized stumpjumper comp women's ~$1200 Santa Cruz Cushtail Juliana $? Full suspension: Trek fuel 90 WSD ~$1300 Santa Cruz Superlight Juliana From $1800 to $3500, expensive but an awesome bike. Hardtail vs. FS depends on you wallet and riding style/trail type. Don't buy one without trying it out. The geometries are vastly different. P.S. my girlfriend rides a trek wsd 6500 (older 6700) and just ordered a juliana superlight. She's 5'3" and will not be riding a non-women's bike ever again after riding the wsd. Good luck, and have fun. |
