What about the fact that it 'hangs' below the chainstay? Has anyone had or known of smashing it on something or is it not an issue? I only ask because I don't think I've seen another frame mount a rear disc in such a manner.

I've been riding my 2001 for a year now with no problems at all. Think of it this way, take a look at your rear derailluer, it's position is far worse than the disc mount, how often do you really f*ck up the R derailluer? It has'nt been a problem for me.
