| bike case | DanbikeHawaii Mar 12, 2002 3:20 AM | | I have a problem. I am moving from Hawaii to the mainland and want to take my two bikes with me. All my household stuff is going to storage (I'm going to help conquer the "axis of evil"). All my stuff is going to be shipped this week and I want to keep my bikes to ride here and before I report to the ship, alas I digress. What would you all do? I could ship one bike via USPS or UPS and take the other on the plane with me. I could maybe try to fit both bikes (one road, one mtn) into one bike box carrying one set of wheels seperately. I found one bike case that carrys two bikes for $425. That plus the fee on the airline would put me at 5 bills. Does anyone know of any other companies that has a two bike carrier besides Trico? Any suggestions on how to overcome this problem with the minimum number of $$ would be appreciated. |

| Any help from Uncle Sam? | Halfnuts Mar 12, 2002 10:46 AM | | Any possibility Uncle Sam can pick up the tab? I imagine they provide some sort of relocation allowance. Can you take a Space Available flight? If so, you might be able to wheel them on.
IMBA option will be $20 for membership, $30 travel agency fee (have to use Navigant) plus you might not get the cheapest fare necessarily. A cheap storage case options is go to the LBS, get a bike box, make sure you get the plastic things that goes between the dropouts so they don't get crushed and use pipe insulation on the frame to protect it. Hard to say what shipping costs would be from HI to the mainland. . . |
