| Disc brakes on a Yakima Steelhead tray? | UzziRidin' Mar 12, 2002 8:01 AM | | I'm in the market for a used bike rack for my Jeep. Ultimately I'm looking for the Yakima Viper tray, but since there relatively new, I haven't found one yet along with a complete setup. But I have seen quite a few Steelheads.
My question:
I have a RockShox Psylo SL with Shimano XT Disc brakes, will this fit on a Steelhead tray?
I'm also looking at Thule's Velo-vise, since they have a disc brake adaptor for $25 bux.
Thanks,

| I have Avid Disc and it fits fine in the Steelhead... | Metroid Mar 12, 2002 10:13 AM | | You could always cut out a piece of the tray to allow it to fit if yours didn't work. |
| Shimano XT discs + Fox Forx + Steelhead tray = no fit | AndyH Mar 12, 2002 10:16 AM | | The disc brake caliper wouldn't clear the tray. Probably could have used a dremel tool to remove some of the metal, but I was concerned that this would weaken the tray. Upgraded to a Viper tray...works like a charm. |

The fork up will work but it is not as secure. Save your money for bike upgrades and cut the tray. |
| Hurricane Fork Up | Derek B Mar 13, 2002 11:36 AM | | The Fork up from Hurricane works great, dont know what the above poster was talking about being "not secure". The Fork Up is totally secure, will never come undone from rack, its also transversiable from rack to rack. You can get the Viper mount, but if your riding buddies dont have a similar rack... your driving. Get the Fork Up and be done with it. |
