DON'T do internet orders with CAMBRIAJCP
Apr 2, 2002 10:33 AM
i have been waiting and waiting for an order i placed over the internet. finally i decided to call them to see what the delay was all about. this is summary of how the conversation went:

me-"i'm checking on order... (gave number)"

cambria-"hold on a second"

-music-

cambria-"what is your name?"

me-"(gave name)"

cambria-"can you hold?"

me-"yes"

-music-

cambria-"the card your paying with is a visa?"

me-"no, mastercard"

cambria-"um...ahh...hold on"

-music-

cambria-"which order was that?"

me-"the ____"

cambria-"um...ahh...uhh..."

me-"i have an order number"

cambria-"uh, thats only so our system knows you placed an order, i'll give you the actual number"

me-"what happened to the original order?"

cambria-"ok"

me-"ok what?"

cambria-"its all set"

me-"what about the original order?"

cambria-"i don't know. here is your new number. anything else?"

This must have been very frustrating, but I'm sure Cambria (or any other online retailer) does not make it a habit of providing bad service. Mistakes happen all the time, even from reptuble brink and morter stores (how many times have you bought something because it was on sale, and when you got home realized they charged you full price?). And I'm sure by complaining to them, they will do what they can to address this problem so it does not happen in the future.

We all have our online ordering frustrating stories. I once ordered something for next day delivery, and found out four days later that they were out of stock. I told them I'd never order from them again.

They lost a customer, but I beat they reexamined their policy on out of stock orders. And I'm sure they did not do it on purpose just to piss me off.
Um...uber-stupid

Well, Cambria does seem to have good prices... not as good as pricepoint, but the selection seems to be a little better.
My own experience went as follows: The order took about a week to arrive, which was a day or two longer than I expected, but not heartbreaking... and finally the box arrived. HOWEVER, they'd sent me the wrong item. Similar, but not quite the same: Quick release skewers, rather than the bolt-on skewers I ordered. Same company, at least, but still wrong product.

The part that disturbed me was that the item number on the invoice matched the item number on the inventory sticker on the package, which had a description on it of what I received, rather than what I ordered... which if you're confused by now, you're not alone... basically it meant their system gave them an item number, and they went to look up the part by item number, but their system's item number wasn't correct, so they sent me the wrong part... essentially meaning their inventory system is out of whack, so you get what their system sends you, rather than what you ordered.

Their customer service was pretty good (I used email rather than phone) and they did the exchange in a fairly timely fashion (the replacement took a while to arrive, too) but I still ended up having to pay return shipping on the thing I got, on top of the original price.

That being said, two people out of... however many doesn't necessarily mean their whole operation is messed up. I ordered some brake pads from them today (pricepoint didn't have the koolstop pads I wanted for ceramic rims) so we'll see how it goes with them this time. I'm sure that sooner or later I'll end up with what I want.
out of stock orders seem the norm...Seb

he first (and last ever) order I made at Cambria had 3 items. I was notified that one was out of stock. It turned out 10 days later that it never was going to be re-stocked, "would you like item x (worth half as much) instead (at the same price)?" I canceled that item, and was only THEN told that the other 2 items on my order were ALSO on back order! When those items arived, they didn't match the web pics, which had in the meantime been pulled down, so I had no real argument (though the items are OK anyhow).

I'm begining to think dealers list out of stock items (at great prices) to draw people into making an order and taking on some other stuff they need (we all do it)- then you cancel the item you rteally wanted, and end up buying stuff you would normally buy locaaly from them. Not exactly a bait-and-switch, but I prefer not to order again from somebody who burns me that way.
Couldn't agree more....[]D [] []v[] []D

Hmm... I had a similar experience with them... I waited two weeks for an online order and finally called. After a similar conversation, I find out they have been out of stock for over a month and not sure when the next shipment was due....

On the other hand, I've ALWAYS had great service from Price Point and JensonUSA though....
am i the only one who's never had a problem with cambria???daneil

two years going strong and I've not had a problem yet, though from the looks of this growing list of compliants it's starting to seem like i'm playing russian roulette over here.
nope, I've never had a problem with them either... but then...gonzostrike

I don't order via Internet because I use the common sense approach and do telephone ordering. too many things can go wrong with an Internet order.

yeah yeah yeah, they have an Internet sales portal and it ought to work. good theory, but why demand it when it's THEY who have what you want and YOU who wants to get it? why not play by THEIR rules?

that's why I never have problems - I never had any with Airbomb, either.

but I won't ever use Kalo!
Their prices are worth a foul up here and thereBH

I waited about 4 weeks for my last order to come in. It turned out that one of the items was back ordered. They E-mailed me about it, I responded to cancel that item but apparently they didn't get my response. I did eventually get the entire order and it was the complete order as originally placed. I don't mind since these items were priced lower than EVERYONE else. Of the about 20 orders I've placed with them, only 2 have had some problems but never have I been ripped off by them. They are still one of my first choices.
Gotta call in orders to cambira...ToddM

My last online order took almost a week before I got a response that the order was recieved and would be shipped out.

Helped another riding buddy with a order, turned out half the things he ordered were out of stock.

In the future I will order from them but only over the phone.

Todd
Havent done that since....Jrm

My Internet order was "lost" and never found. Like some other posters have mentioned use the site to browse the catalog, but you have to call to make the order. I pratice this with every mail order place i deal with. hey they all have toll free numbers...what the heck..
have been great for me!MiGuEl

infact that's who I mainly do most of my mailorders with. I've only done one online order and it went through right away, they even called me to confirm the order and verify a price match.

I order from them all the time and never have a problem. I always call. I never place an order on the internet. You never know if it is actually in stock or not. They carry alot of stuff that will be on back order. If you do not call, you will not know when you will get your stuff. next time, I recomend calling first. Good Luck
Should have CALLED first. WOOPShurricanebama

Besides Helens Cycles in Arcadia, I haven't seen a shop consistently friendlier & knowledgeable than Cambria Bicycle Outfitters. These guys are just plain good riders and very helpful. Not once have they failed to greet me at the door, or offer help and advice.

If they made a mistake on your order, it's 1 out of the billions served! haha. Don't ruin a good shop like that...pls.

Okay, so my response is pointless! But shiat happens eh?

It's not exactly my LBS as I'm in FL but it's where I buy everything I need. I've done plenty of business with Cambria and have been very satisfied. I had a few delays with internet sales and back orders but that's the nature of the beast I think. I do all my purchases via phone now. Call Penelope at ext 239, she's very helpful and knowledgeble.
