im a horrible mechanic and im trying to get my current platform pedals off the cranks to replace them with better ones. i tried using a wrench to twist it off. should i just take it to the shop? or should this be very easy?
It may not be easy but...BCRider

... Just remember that the left side pedal is left hand threaded. There will always be a groove or some knurling or something else to mark the left hand pedal on the area between the wrench flats. The right side pedal is right hand threaded like normal.

And it's gonna be a bugger to get it off now that you've tightened it but just go for it.

don't get frustrated....if your still having problems, let me help, first make sure you have the right wrench, most pedal wrenches are narrow enough to slip in between pedal and crank, and they are typically longer in length to aid in torque, my personnal favorite is the PARK pedal wrench....anyways, make sure your turning the threads the right direction, to take them off spin the axle counter clockwise, on each side...remember the non-drive side is reverse threaded...good luck...hey !!! when you putthem back onto the bike apply a small amount of grease to threads, this acts as an anti-sieze .

Removing and installing pedals is a fairly simple task. Be sure to position the wrench and crankarm for good mechanical advantage.

I'm sure someone by now has explained that the laft pedal is threaded backwards, I just wanted to poke fun. It's too damn early for any serious thought just yet... I'm off in search of caffeine.
