Anyone have experience with NASHBAR frames(11 posts)

Anyone have experience with NASHBAR framesAl

I have a friend looking to build a bike. I just received in the mail the new NASHBAR catalog and saw that they had some frames for very little money. I was wondering if anyone knew who makes the frames for them or has anyone had experience with these frames.

Thanx,
Al

I use mine as a commuter, mostly, but it's held up pretty well so far. I have no idea who made it to begin with, but it seems decently done, and it's not as heavy as a department store bike, so I'm guessing it's someone at least moderately decent. There's been a thread or two on here so far... I think the last one was a few weeks back, someone built one up.

Just be aware you need ALL hardware... braze-on bolts included to seal the freame against outside water, and the seat-post clamp bolt.
Other than thta, no worries, the thing works pretty well for me, and I'm a pretty big guy, who hasn't been entirely nice to it... (a few stairs here and there, and some other stuff... nothing too violent, but for it to put up with stuff that's managed to stress the fork (RS Judy) to the point where I'm having to replace it soon, 'cause it's too flexy front-back like, then I'd think it's a pretty stout frame. But that's just my .02

Try finding the guy who built up the blue one... it sounded like it was in for a bit of a harder time than mine... see how his is holding up. But for me it's been a great beater/commuter frame so far.

I have had this polished 6061 AL frame for years, it's a beach cruiser style and still my favorite all around frame. I have a bomber on it with XTR-8 front & rear, xc pro thumbies, c2 ahead, syncros revo (steel) 180 cranks, M323 pedals, syncros flip face stem, kalloy post & brooks springer saddle with WTB 2.1 velicraptors. It's been crashed many times an never damaged, even snapped a thudbuster in it once & was fine. I would buy another in a second. I have 8 bikes, 2 our chameleon, 1 homegrown, 1 kona, 1 giant, 1 KHS, & 1 Dyno plus thios cruiser so I've built up many frames. I'd recommend buying it.

I convinced a friend of mine to get one of those- very cool bike.

FYI, the new cheapos ones are steel, or if you pay a little more they have an alu model.

Check out the ACCESS frame on the Supergo.com website. A riding partner of mine purchased one for $89 while his Santa Cruz was getting warranty repaired. It turned out to be a nice bike. He even decided to keep it around as a backup 2nd bike.

The Wayless frames look nice also, especially the SC Superlight clone!!
Another vote for the Access...BCRider

... parts came off a Norco Sasquatch. I like the geometry for my style of riding much better with the Access frame. Z5 forks, Truvative Hussafelt cranks, LX drivetrain, Formula hubs with some sort of Rhynolite clone rims, Hayes HMX brakes and Avid SD5's. Fenders are coming off soon. I was commuting on it for fun and wheelie drop practice for a while.

Note the funky double seatpost that I was able to make up using the 31.2mm stock post and a 27.2 (IIRC) Synchros. It's shown in the street mode in the pic. For trail riding I drop it down about 3 inches. That's an 18 inch frame and I'm 6'1". But it's a big 18 inch frame. If you go for one look over the frame dimensions so you get what you want.
