First Rocky Mountain question: are all the bikes made in Canada, specifically the oxygen and the instinct?

Second I am thinking about getting an instinct, I want to swap out the disk brakes for xtr v brakes and the rims for cross max, how much extra do you think my lbs will charge for the bike? Any other suggestions as far as v brakes go, is there a comparable v brake for less $$?

No, not all rm are made in Canada! but that's all right, all the nice ones are. Why not just keep the discs, they are not that much heavier and provide much better braking. Its not something you can feel in the parking lot but on the trail it makes all the difference. But if you have to get v-brakes, stay away from XTR, they are heavy, expensive, and develope a lot of play. Get the Avid single digit Ti, they are a great deal, really cheap, and work better than XTR. If you've got the cash though, spring for the Avid single digit ultimates, they are the best v-brakes on the planet.

I've got a '99 Instinct ... it came spec'd with a set of crappy mechanical discs, so I had my LBS swap them for a set of Hayes Hydraulics. While this certainly depends on the type of riding you do, but I would say the extra few ounces (and really, where probably talking less than a pound and a half or so) is well worth the braking power, no tired hands/forearms, and consistent/perfect operation in every weather conidition.

By the way ... I have never loved a bike like I love my Instinct. I have others, but I always go back to her. Get one (with or without discs)and you won't regret it.
