Smelly Jerseys(4 posts)

I prefer to use non-scented laundry detergents - because the perfumes are irritating to my allergies. But after washing, my jerseys still smell! Perfumed laundry detergents leave them smelling clean, though I suspect they are simply "covering" up the smell with a stronger perfume. Anyone else notice this? What's the best way to get these babies clean. I know they'll end up smelling quickly, but I like to start off a ride in a fresh jersey. I've tried several brands of detergent, to no avail.

Problem is that most bike jerseys are made of materials designed to wick water away - not absorbe it. Add some smelly body oils on top of that and you have a cloth that doesn't take kindly to water.

Try as you might you will still end up stinking after a few minutes back in the saddle on a hot day.
