Bicylcle geometry(3 posts)

Hey, how do you guys measure the geometry of your bikes, specifically the HT and ST angles? Do you stand it up and use a plumb line and and protractor, or some such means? Everyone's always talking about the angles on their bikes, but I always wonder if they've measured them themselves, or if they're just assuming the manufacturers numbers are correct. Things as simple as converting your front tire to a something high volume like a Hutchison can raise the front end close to half an inch, it seems. I've been wanting to measure my double-diamond hardtail for a while, and was wondering what the most accurate way to do it would be. Thanks. Email me if you want a free, but wrong, reading.

Although I've just taken the bikes specifications at face value, you could measure the angles with an angle finder. I don't know where they sell them but we had one where I used to work which was basically a protractor with a dohickey that rotated about the center. YOu could also use a device that carpenters use to transfer and measure angles inconjunction with a protractor.

..are available in any decent hardware store these days. Look for the little 1/4 pie shaped deals with a circular dial gauge in the center. You'll see a gravity powered red needle inside. Shouldn't be more than $5 or $6.

Hey Nostradumbass, I like your choice of web name LOL
