Why / how does Continental measure tires?Louie

Picked up a Vertical Pro "2.3" the other day... looked small but I figured that's ok if it's not a real 2.3" tire, thought it might measure up to a 2.1 at least. Anyways, I decided to measure the width once I had it on a rim and it was barely 2 inches wide. WTF? Why call it a 2.3? I'd hate to see any of their 2.1's, they must be really small. It's stupid.

Just a rant. They make nice tires, but there is nothing 2.3 about it.
No idea, but my Panaracer 2.1s are significantly smallerarch

Heck if I know how Conti get's their measurements. Conti's 2.1 are about as big as 1.8's and their 2.3's are about the same size as 2.1's.
I will post my tire chart late tonightshiggy

I have Conti, Michelin, Specialized, Hutchinson, Tioga, Panaracer and Schwalbe (at least) on it. Casing width, tread width, casing height, tread depth and weight is listed for most of the tires included. All measured by me.

And yes, the Contis are small.

They include the side knobs in the measurement...Metroid
Apr 25, 2002 5:06 AM
The Explorer Pro is exactly 2.1 including the side knobs on my 23.5mm XC rims. The Escape Pro is slightly smaller (0.1mm) despite the fact that Conti says they are the same size. My next tire is probably going to be a Vertical Protection.
