Seneca State Park Suggestions(4 posts)

Seneca State Park SuggestionsBib

I was planning a bachelor road trip to Bicycling Magazine's #4 of "Places to Ride this Summer." So what else is there in Gaithersburg, MD? Any Bars or good eats? Movies, anything?
Also, at the park, what is a good loop? Anything else there worth doing like canoeing or something? I live in southern PA so this is someplace relatively close on the list from the mag and I like to try and get to the different places that have been written about. I also figured that Since the reviews of thepark say it is easy, it would be good for the poor sap getting married b/c he is finally off the DL list from a broken collar bone.
Any and all suggestions are thanked in advance!
peace--db

I've never ridden Seneca, as I've heard its only about a 6 mile loop and relatively flat and easy. About a mile up the road however, is Schaffer Farm trails. About 15 miles of tight, twisty single track with lots of logs. Not much climbing, but very fast trails. I don't hang out in gaithersburg much, but Rockville and Bethesda, which are a little further south, have tons of restarants and bars.

Seneca Creek Park is too easy. Go a few miles (1-2?) up 117 and hit Schaeffer instead. Even my wife who doesn't ride much thinks Seneca Creek is too smooth and easy. If you want that, then ride on the Mall downtown so you can at least get some sites in while you're here.

Don't know what you're looking for, but the riding in Seneca is nothing special. Some nice rolling singletrack, but nothing particularly technical. In 2 hrs you can ride every trail in the park. Some AWESOME riding in Gambrill St. Park in Frederick, which is probably closer to you anyway.

There's a pretty good brew pub in G-burg, as well as Roy's Place, which is famous in the DC area for a ridiculously long list of Deli sandwiches.
Also, O'brien's Pit BBQ on Gude Dr. has good ribs.
