| flat-spotted rim... how big a deal is this? | up_hiller Apr 25, 2002 9:33 AM | | I knocked the crap out of my rear wheel on a stump in a race Sunday. I got the wheel true now, but the rim still has a flat spot that isn't going away. How big a deal is this? I rode about ten miles on it yesterday and didn't notice anything different about the ride at all. Should I be prepared for the rim to fail completely any ride now? Or do I just keep trucking and wait until I do it again or I wear out the hub, and then seize the opportunity to replace the wheel?
Thanks.
happy trails!

| Keep on truckin'! | Cook Apr 25, 2002 9:42 AM | | I 'might' be a wee bit concerned if the flat spot was over the joint....even if it is, as long as the joint is intact (ie, not spit) then I wouldn't sweat it.
But you could use it as an excuse to buy a new wheel, and save that one for back-up ;) |
| I did that to a brand new road rim.... | BCRider Apr 25, 2002 10:25 AM | | I have no idea how the rim dented since the tire never even pinch flatted. It was fine for about 2 weeks and then lump....lump....lump...
Being cheap and stubborn I rode it for about 2 months but there was always that lump....lump....lump....
I finally gave up and got a new rim.
But for off road I doubt if you will ever notice the trouble. Assuming it's just the bead that rippled a little or that you got the spoke tensions all evened up. If you use V brakes it might be a little lumpy. |
