| Where can I find a good seatpost for under $50? | root locus Apr 25, 2002 10:49 AM | | I bent my seatpost and need to find a new one. The LBS's don't have anything in stock but generic crap. I read some of the reviews on this site and was surprised that many of the name-brand posts got bad reviews (Syncros, Easton 50, etc) I can't afford Thompson or Race face or anything like that. I am 6'3", 190lbs and ride a 19" frame, so I need a strong (and long) seatpost. Supergo has a Weyless forged 7075 post for $35. http://www.supergo.com/itemdisplay.asp?compflag=1&parentid=18174&company=Weyless&secid=7559&subid=1812 is Weyless any good? I've never heard of them. |
| classifieds! | WadeO Apr 25, 2002 11:14 AM | | but never ever buy a used carbon post. You can buy Thomson mail-order for $70 all day long. |
| What size do you need? How about a Dean Ti? | astogie Apr 25, 2002 11:40 AM | | If you need a 27.2 I have a near new (on bike but only ridden to test) Dean ti post. I could let you have it for $50
Let me now if you are interested,

| Titec Hot Deals | laffeaux Apr 25, 2002 11:56 AM | | If you're on a budget, look here. For $10 you can get a brand new decent post. You can't beat that. http://www.titec.com/department.asp?deptid=9 |
| yeah but everyone gives them bad ratings | root locus Apr 25, 2002 12:34 PM | | http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/Seatpost/product_22804.shtml Most of the serious users rated them very poor. |
| yeah but everyone gives them bad ratings | laffeaux Apr 25, 2002 1:45 PM | | It's part of the trade off. You can spend $70 on a Thomson, be happy, and never have to replace it. Or you can spend $10 on a Titec and get something that functions well enough, and might need to be replaced one day. |
| Looked at those before I bought one... | JmZ Apr 25, 2002 7:29 PM | | And most of the problems seemed to stem from the X-Wing head on the posts. Most of the clearance stuff is not that design. The only thing I've heard about the other design is that setup is a bitch, and that I can attest to, but I'm only going to do that once. Got one of the Ti posts for $40 and it seems to be holding up fine under my 200 lbs. Will report more after more riding time. JmZ |

| titec | Eric Hoefer Apr 25, 2002 1:42 PM | | i got the carbon 191 (titec) for 40 bucks and love it no poroblems whatsoever |
| Salsa Shaft for $45 at Jenson (nm) | Suds Apr 25, 2002 2:26 PM | | |
| Kalloy Uno $25 at Cambria | Skitz02-nm Apr 25, 2002 3:24 PM | | nm |
| 2nd the Kalloy Uno | Kapusta Apr 25, 2002 7:26 PM | | I paid $20 for mine from Nashbar a few years ago. It's average weight, and it has never slipped. I cannot for the life of me figure out why you would spend over $50 on a seatpost unless you are really a weight fanatic. |
| If you want a strong post, I suggest......... | autoduel Apr 25, 2002 8:25 PM | | A control tech ribbed post or an IRD(don't know if they make em anymore). Or you might find a used Ti post. |
| If you can spend $9 more ... | Philber Apr 26, 2002 5:42 AM | | You can usually find a Thomson for $59. For my money, Thomson is the best, strongest, most reliable post out there. I don't think you could go wrong by going $9 over budget. |
| re: Where can I find a good seatpost for under $50? | mikeb Apr 26, 2002 6:24 AM | | I think you can get a Thomson at Purplemonkeybicyle.com for $54. I've never ordered from them before so I can't really recommend them. |
