| Any S Dakota riders out there? | BullDozer Apr 25, 2002 1:16 PM | | I'll be in the state in a couple of weeks and I was wondering if there are any good trails in the eastern part of the state? I'll be close to Aberdeen.
I found some trails at www.trails.com but they've gone and bastardized things by charging for trail info now. Screw that. |

And in recent years they have experienced a lot of flooding in the farm land in that part of the state. You have to be in the western part of the state in the Black Hills for quality mountain biking. Take your golf clubs instead. Go west, young man. Go west... --M.Y. |
| Not much in the way of riding... | Squash Apr 26, 2002 3:15 AM | | in the Aberdeen area. I live in Redfield, about 40 miles south of Aberdeen. There is Richmond Lake recreation area, just a bit north and west of Aberdeen. But the trails are not very challenging. Primarily multi use hike, bike, horse, XC ski trails. Several combinations of loops, but even if you took each loop, you'll only have ridden maybe 10 miles total. And the trails are pretty easy begginers stuff. As Mountain Yodel stated, there isn't much in the way of "quality" riding on the east end of the state. Most of the land out here is privately owned and either under cultivation or used as pasture. Out west in the Black Hills is where you get into it. The Centenial trail is awsome, and there are others in the Spearfish area that are great. But that's a 345+ mile drive from Aberdeen. The next closest place to ride would be the Mah-dah-hey trail in Medora, North Dakota, but that's about a 275 mile trip. There are other small SD State Rec areas that have trails, but as is the case with Richmond it's pretty much begginer level stuff and not very challenging. Bring the bike if you like, but the golf clubs might be a more enjoyable way to go.
