The group pushing to ban bicycling recreation in these 170+ areas

The person responsible for pushing to ban bicycles - Director of CWC Paul Spitler(he wants MTB 100% banned) paul@calwild.org (his email) Phone(530)758-0380 Fax(530)758-0382 Paul Spitler has stated we are the "minority" and that we don't matter.

170+ areas listed

Wilderness Designation = NO BICYCLES! "Will can't we exclude bicycles from this"? NO you can't get "mechanized transportation" also known as us bicyclist excluded from Wilderness Designation proposals. That's a very old issue already that has been looked into. The answer is still no incase your stuck in the past on that issue. It's access for all groups or Wilderness Designation and no access. You will have to change the Wilderness Designation Act of 1964 itself to pull that off. Tell your senators to support recreation. The democRATS responsible for proposing this and trying to shut us out of all these areas are none other then two very old liberal ladies who don't even mountain bike. And they are -

Senator Barbara Boxer
112 Hart Senate Office Building Washington, DC 20510 Senator@boxer.senate.gov
(415) 403-0100

Senator Dianne Feinstein
United States Senate
331 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510
Senator@feinstein.senate.gov
(415) 536-6868

The eco groups behind this that are trying to stop bicycles and other forms of recreation on public lands-
1. Sierra Club
2. CWC -
3. CBD
4. REI -(The store) they are supporting CWC

Can IMBA save face on this issue? Or will membership continue to decline and people continue to lose trust in IMBA because of their connections with the Sierra Club? IMBA supports Designated Wilderness which closes our bike trails. Does that make any sense to you?

The links below are for calling and e-mailing your senators and tellng them you don't support this ban on recreation. Let these people know they will lose votes if they support this issue.

Boxer has a simple email form to fill out:

Feinstein can be contacted through regular email:
Senator@feinstein.senate.gov

and here is a list of contact info for all Senators:

and a web form to write you local Congressman:
It just takes a few minutes to write a couple of emailswg

This is something that we all can spend a little time on. It took me 10 minutes to write emails to Senators Boxer and Feinstein asking them support a change in the Wilderness Designation "requesting that the Wilderness definition be reworded so as to include 'mechanized' transport or a new definition of Wilderness is needed, that will include non-motorized recreational use." Basically a cut and paste with some key words. There are enough of us to at least be heard up in DC.
I spend at least 10 min a day scrounging thru this site so a couple more minutes to help keep the areas I ride and want my kids to ride open is time well spent.

I've written to Feinstein and Boxer, and even sent an e-mail to the guys at Calwild. I contacted the state IMBA rep a while back, but unfortunatly none of the affected areas are close enough to me for me to do a lot.

What else can I do to prevent this? What can I tell my local advocacy group to do? We're pretty swamped with local issues, but I don't want this to be ignored.

I want to help, buy don't know what to do. Any advice?
