turn towards rear wheel some times if you use a cheater bar something longer for more leverage it will work good luck
Don't worry, you're not the only one who's done this...MM

Ok, pedals and cranks are set up so one unscrews abnormally. Just twist the wrench over the top of the pedal in the direction of the rear of the bike. Simply put, the left crank is backwards.
Try thisBH

Look closely at your new pedals. One has a left hand thread. This is so that they can't loosen up when you pedal. Put your finger nail in the thread and turn the axle each way until you figure out which way it goes out. Note if it is a left or right pedal, it should be obvious and the manufacturer marks them 9 out of 10 times with L or R. Now using what you just learned unscrew the corresponding pedal on the bike. I usually put my chest on the saddle, one hand on the rear brake and pull on the wrench. Good luck.
left side is reverse-thread.....Dave in Md.

The right(drive side) pedal is regular thread-clockwise to tighten and counter-clockwise to loosen. The left(non-drive side) is a reverse thread-clockwise to LOOSEN and vice-versa. You may want to put the bike on it's side and put a little penetrating oil on the spindle. Then try putting the wrench on the pedal flat & tap it with a hammer until it breaks loose a little. Has worked for me before.

Also it's easy to over tighten pedals, and sometimes the Park Pedal Wrench can make the world a whole lot easier. Would seem that you wouldn't gain that much from such a thing, but you do.
