| Cane Creek AD-12 Settings | bob May 18, 2002 8:09 AM | | I've been trying to get my new AD-12 dialed in for two weeks now. The thing seems to have little if any rebound adjustment. I have the rebound screw totally maxed and I'm still bouncing around. The compression screw is turned down about 1/4 of the way. Is this normal? |
| not normal... | næstep May 18, 2002 4:03 PM | | My experience with the AD-10 & -12 on two different frames says that this is not normal. You can expect the rebound damping to have a wider range of adjustment than the compression, from practically kicking you off the bike to nothing at all.
What's the story on the shock? Did it come with the bike, or is it aftermarket? |
| not normal... | bob May 18, 2002 5:07 PM | | It's aftermarket. |
| Built for your bike? | næstep May 18, 2002 5:52 PM | | Reason I ask is, there is a lot more than eye-to-eye when sizing one of their shocks. Was it custom ordered for your bike?

| re: Cane Creek AD-12 Settings | J SINON May 21, 2002 3:54 AM | | I ran into the same problem, and after sending it back once and then having them send me a new one that worked the same I gave up and bought a Stratos Helix Expert. I came to the conclusion that air shocks (particularly shock such as the AD-12 that use air instead of oil for damping comtrol) are just not for big (225+) riders. I think that the air pressure required to set the sag for my weight was over powering the rebound setting. I just can't see how using air is going to work as good as oil for damping control(air is going to flow through any orifice much easier than oil). If I weighed less the shock would have been great. If I ran a much reduced air pressure than the shock was the best thing I ever used, but the would set the sag almost half way through the travel. So to make a long story short, if you are a big guy that might be the reason the rebound doesn't do it, it didn't for me and these shocks seem to be pretty highly rated so I can't believ that I got 2 lemons. |
| I can't imagine why, either... | næstep May 21, 2002 7:06 AM | | ...because I weigh in at 235lbs., plus my riding gear.
My AD-10 gave me a over a year of hassle-free use before I rebuilt it due to an internal air leak. My AD-12 on my NRS is killer I couldn't be happier. My Air Damped Eko-Sport Total Air cartridges in my '96 Judy are on their third year and going strong. My X-Vert is relatively new (and oil damped), but so far no complaints. In all cases they are near but not quite at max pressure, but offer a full range of adjustments.
