| Giant NRS Headset Spacers? | RobB May 18, 2002 7:46 PM | | I recently purchased a Giant NRS 2 equipped with a Manitou Black Comp fork. When the fork is set at 80mm the front end geometry feels ok, but when I set it at 100mm (preferred for rough technical trails) the front end goes up by about an 1" resulting in a more upright sitting position and the handling feels somewhat looser. For some reason the bike came equipped with 1 1/8" of headset spacers. Would removing let's say ¾" worth of spacers lower the front end and improve the handling at the 100mm setting? |
| Doesn't really lower the front end, but... | næstep May 18, 2002 8:22 PM | | ...it lowers the handlebar position, shifting your CG forward to the position you're looking for.
Play with it a bit. Stack the spacers you remove on top of the stem until you find a height you like; that way you won't have to make any premature cuts to your steerer tube.

| Yes, that's the way to go. | John May 19, 2002 4:13 AM | | Don't cut prematurely!!! Leave the steer tube long, for at least a couple months until you are sure the height is totally acceptable. I regret cutting my steer tube on two bikes.
And moving stack spacers will not change the fork/frame geometry, as already said. It changes your riding postion only, although it may make you more comfortable on the bike. |
