Top tube: Road vs Mtn(2 posts)

Top tube: Road vs MtnVetteRacer

My road bike fits me almost perfect (damn close for a production frame). 11cm stem, etc. I am wondering if the mtn bike should have the same top tube length? seems like the fitting should be the same and such.

Any comments?
Matt

Generally speaking, in comparison to a competition road bike a cross-country mountain bike has a top tube of around 1 to almost 2 inches longer. On the other hand the seat tube of a mountain bike is considerably shorter; typically 3-4 inched less.
