New Wheel Set Question(3 posts)

New Wheel Set QuestionEddie
May 19, 2002 7:16 AM
I am thinking of getting a new pair of Mavic 517's with XT hubs from an online retailer. What would I need to do to prep these rims for riding. Do I need rim tape? is it hard to remove and install a cassete? What else do I need to do?
Thanks

new rim tape and to remove your old cassette you could either
A. get a chain whip and a cassette lockring tool and do it yourself see this website http://www.parktool.com/repair_help/FAQcogs.shtml

B. you could take it to the LBS and they could do it for a few dollars. overall changing yer cassette is no big deal.

Use a good quality cloth tape (e.g. Velox) and take care putting it in so that it's properly centered. Removing and installing a cassette is easy if you have the right tool (http://www.parktool.com/tools/FR_5.shtml).
