I found some LX shift pods that are OEM they are very cheap in price but i was wondering does OEM mean new just taken off a fully built bike or are they used at all.

.....that they are parts that are supplied to bike builders or factories. They somehow (stock over-run etc) came to be on the retail market.

They could differ from normal consumer parts in that they might be bagged instead of boxed and be without instructions, small fitting parts, be of a different color or material or other things that a bike maker can specify when they order by the thousand.

You have to be careful that the parts that might be missing could cost you more in time, money and trouble than the deal is worth. Buyer beware! Ask questions.

that I got burned on.

OEM Rockshox seatpost - no Judy butter, no extra keys, no extra elastomer, no instructions (all part of retail box).

OEM Avid disc brake (rear) - no torx wrench, no frickin mounting screws (tab/adapter)

I will never, ever, ever, ever buy anything OEM again. Mike T. is correct - buyer beware and make sure you know exactly (down to the last screw) what you are getting.
And it's because...................Mike T.

.....the bike builders (who use the OEM stuff) have bins full of all the stuff you mention (hey they pay 30% of what you pay as they buy by the 1000's) and they don't need a Torx wrench or whatever with every widget they bolt to their bikes.

When the builders sell off their over-stock they don't give a rat's arse that all the liddle bits you need aren't in the bag.
