| yakima rack on 02 civic coupe | Muaddib1116 May 19, 2002 6:52 PM | | I have an 02 civic coupe and I want to get a yakima viper rack set for it, but the yakima site says that I need an extender for the Q-towers, since the coupe has too little room between bars. I think thats just for more money, if I dont use their extendor, I'll have two feet between the bars to hold the viper racks, is that enough? or do I really need that ugly extender on my beautious car? |

| Adds stability/rigidity... | Chip May 20, 2002 3:40 AM | | If you don't get the extender you'll have about a foot to a foot and a half between crossbars. It works, but bikes will be wobbling like crazy in the wind.
Good luck with the Civic... just got rid of my '93 Civic after 200k miles and got myself a Protege5... now I'm struggling with my own rack qualms. |
| Traded in my Acura Integra and have Yak extenders sitting | SBC May 20, 2002 4:56 AM | | around. If you are interested in buying them let me know. They've been on the car for about a year and a half. Perfect condition. I'm on the east coast. |
| Not really needed.... | El Jester May 20, 2002 5:00 AM | | I have a 95 civic ex that i use a Thule rack w/ Yakima trays on and do not have the extender. It never wobbles! I've had 35+ pound bikes up there with out a problem.
Try it w/o the extender and see what your results are, if it wobbles too badly then go buy it. |
| Thanks guys | Muaddib1116 May 20, 2002 5:58 AM | | Thanks for the advice guys, I think I'll try it without the extender and if I have problems I buy one. |
