| Inside Bike Rack | Eman Jun 15, 2002 7:22 AM | | I really need a bike rack that can mount inside a Jeep Cherokee. I found reference to a "K&S Bike Transporter" but cannot find it for sale anywhere? Any ideas on this or any other recommendations? I need it inside because I ride before work and it would be way more conveniet if I did not have to take my bike off a rack every morning that I ride and put it in my office...Thanks in advance. |

You can build your own internal bike rack. You can get fork clamps at places like Performance. Then you just attach them to a piece of wood. |
| truck question | LTGTR Jun 16, 2002 7:13 AM | | Hey - I 've gotten pretty sick of the whole bike rack thing and would love to just throw the bike in the back - protected from the elements and theoretically less theft worry. Been thinking about a truck - how do you like the xterra? |
| I agree, peice of wood, and a couple cheap fork clamps | EricTheRed Jun 17, 2002 7:32 AM | | pretty cheap, the most expensive part is gonna be the fork clamps at about $20 (at least that is what they were at my lbs) Whats nice about the piece of wood is you can off-set on of the clamps so that if you have to carry two very similar bikes you can make it so the handle bars don't interfere. Plus if they are standing up, you don't have to worry about them falling over on the other and banging up the ders. -e |

| re: Inside Bike Rack | RobB Jun 15, 2002 8:33 PM | | Nissan and Toyota interior bike racks cost about $300.00 CND, so I built my own 2 bike rack for my Toyota Highlander using two Swagman QR fork mount clamps, piece of oak wood painted black and tie- down straps available at automotive stores to secure the rack. Basically followed these instructions: http://www.xterraparts.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/InteriorBikeCarrier_Instr_pg1.html
Total coast around $50.00 |
