USAir & BikesHeinrich

On the phone I'm told I'm going to be charged $160 to fly with my bike from Norfolk, VA to Detroit. I've heard stories of people being really nice and not being charged the fee. I don't have a bike bag yet. Anyone have any specific experience with USAir?

I usually fly American, and I have never paid. Never told them it was a bike either. I just took it really apart and packed the wheels and bars in a separate box (a big suitcase actually). Be careful if you try that due to the increased security these days. Don't want them to freak out on you.
You might want to check into an IMBA membership. I don't know the specifics, but with a 20 something dollar membership you can fly your bike for free on certain airlines, not sure if USAir is one or not. I wouldn't fly an airline that is trying to bone me like that. I have flown with 2 Newfoundland dogs (180lbs each) and the the airline (American) only charged $75. So it sounds like USAir may be trying to screw you. Good luck.
Hell, it'd be cheaper to ship it yourselfFat-tire
